Among Stefani’s many albums, “DULCE SENSACION” features one of the first songs she ever sang, “ANGEL BABY” with a Spanglish and a Spanish version featuring a cumbia beat. The first single “AY PAPI” written by Stefani, included a Tejano hip-hop, and “Mambolicious” tropical version which all drew immediate success and airplay throughout the country including Los Angeles, Miami, and Puerto Rico. The album earned her a nomination for “BEST TEJANO PERFORMANCE” at the first ever Latin Grammys in 2000. “TAKIN ON THE WORLD” one of Stefani’s most recent albums earned her another nomination for “BEST TEJANO ALBUM” at the Grammys in 2005.
In the summer of 2005, Stefani Montiel joined forces with fellow Tejano artists Elida Reyna and Shelly Lares to create the group and album titled LAS TRES DIVAS. This project brought together the three top female singers in Tejano music. The collaboration was so successful it led to a tour throughout the country as well as Alaska and Japan. It also earned a Grammy nomination for “BEST MEXICAN/AMERICAN ALBUM” and a Latin Grammy nomination for “BEST TEJANO ALBUM.”
In an effort to provide her fans with a variety and varied styles of music, Stefani’s 2008 releases include three equally anticipated albums as well as a re-release of her first album, “ANGEL BABY.” The first of the three albums, “THE MUSIC OF JOE BARELA” introduces fans to a smooth country type and traditional ranchera tracks all written by Stefani’s uncle Joe Barela. The next album, “ACOUSTIC SESSIONS WITH STEFANI MONTIEL” includes a DVD with live performances of some of Stefani’s biggest hits. The last to be released “DIVINA,” showcases Stefani’s signature style of Tejano. “LABIOS VENENOSOS,” the first single off the album has already proven to be a radio favorite. Stefani was also chosen to appear regularly with her band on he nationally syndicated show “BILLBOARD LATINO.”
Giving back to the music industry, Stefani has devoted herself to organizations that are vital to the support of artists such as herself. She has served for ten years as a governor for the Texas Chapter Board of Governors for the National Academy of Arts & Sciences. She has served as the Chapter’s Vice-President and is the first hispanic female to hold the coveted National Trustee position for five consecutive years. Stefani has also served on the New Mexico music coalition and currently serves as Vice-President of the Academy of Tejano Artists and Musicians.
